IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER

Mechanicville City, PWSID# NY4500166

1st Quarter 2022

Has Levels of Trihalomethanes (THM) and Haloacetic Acids (HAA5)

Above Drinking Water Standards

Our water system recently violated a drinking water standard. Although this is not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened, what you should do, and what we are doing to correct this situation.

We routinely monitor for the presence of drinking water contaminants. Results of a sample collected at 4 Industrial Park Drive on February 17, 2022 and analyzed for Trihalomethanes (THM) showed 41.1 micrograms per liter ug/l. While this result is below the standard, the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for THMs is based on a Locational Running Annual Average (LRAA) where the results of the four most recent quarters are averaged and the result compared to the MCL. The LRAA for the 1st Quarter 2022 was 82.4 ug/l. The MCL is 80.0 ug/l.

Results of a sample collected at 147 Saratoga Avenue on February 17, 2022 and analyzed for Haloacetic Acids (HAA5) showed 29.8 ug/l. This result is also below the standard, but the LRAA for the 1st Quarter 2022 was 60.4 ug/l. The MCL is 60.0 ug/l.

What should I do?

You do not need to use an alternative (e.g., bottled) water supply. However, if you have specific health concerns, consult your doctor.

What does this mean?

This is not an immediate risk. If it had been, you would have been notified immediately.

Some people who drink water containing trihalomethanes in excess of the MCL over many

years may experience problems with their liver, kidneys, or central nervous system, and may have an increased risk of getting cancer.

Some people who drink water containing haloacetic acids in excess of the MCL over many years may have an increased risk of getting cancer.

What happened? What is being done?

We will continue to monitor in accordance with Department of Health requirements and will provide required updates to our customers.
