Civil Service Commission

Overview

The function of the Municipal Civil Service Commission is to provide an orderly and uniform system for the administration of Civil Service in the City of Mechanicville on the basis of merit and fitness as provided in the Civil Service Law of the State of New York.  These rules have the force and effect of law and apply to all positions in the classified services of the City of Mechanicville, Mechanicville Housing Authority, Mechanicville Public Library and the Mechanicville City School District.

Other duties of the Commission are:

  • Maintain Roster Records for all employees
  • Certify payrolls for each municipality
  • Administration of Civil Service Exams and Certify Eligible Lists for appointments
  • Enforce Rules of the Civil Service Commission
  • Certify titles for new positions
  • Approval of applications for non-competitive appointments

The hours of operation are currently open on Tuesday and Friday from 9:00am to 11:30am unless it falls on a holiday.

The Commission has jurisdiction over the following:

  • City Hall
  • Police Department
  • City Garage
