Overview

The Municipal Civil Service Commission provides an orderly and uniform system for the administration of Civil Service in the City of Mechanicville. This is done on the basis of merit and fitness, as established by the Civil Service Law of the State of New York. These rules have the force and effect of law and apply to all positions in the classified services of the City of Mechanicville, Mechanicville Housing Authority, Mechanicville Public Library, and the Mechanicville City School District.

Duties of the Commission

• Maintain roster records for all employees
• Certify payrolls for each municipality
• Administer Civil Service examinations and certify eligible lists for appointments
• Enforce the Rules of the Civil Service Commission
• Certify titles for new positions
• Approve applications for non-competitive appointments

Office Hours

The Commission office is currently open on Tuesday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., unless the day falls on a holiday.

Jurisdiction 

The Commission has jurisdiction over the following departments:

• City Hall
• Police Department
• City Garage

Please Note: If you would like to submit a question to the Civil Service Commission, it must be received at least two days prior to the scheduled meeting and must relate to an item already on the agenda. Questions should be submitted to both Dawnmarie Robens (Chairperson) and Erin Lyons (Secretary).
