Marriage License Marriage License

Marriage licenses are issued by the Accounts Department / City Clerk’s Office.

Requirements:

• Both applicants must be at least 18 years old.
• Both parties must apply in person together at the City Clerk’s Office.

Process:

1. Complete the Marriage License Application at the City Clerk’s Office.
2. The completed application is given to the couple.
3. The couple gives the application to their wedding officiant.
4. After the ceremony, the officiant completes their portion and returns the application to the City Clerk’s Office.
5. Once the completed application is received, the City Clerk will issue the official Marriage Certificate.

Fee: $40.00 (payable to the City of Mechanicville)

Important Rules:

• You cannot get married less than 24 hours or more than 60 days after the license is issued.
• If either person has been previously married, they must bring:
  • A copy of the divorce decree (if divorced), or
  • A copy of the death certificate (if widowed).

Additional Copies of the Marriage Certificate are available for $10.00 each.
