Municipal Water System Municipal Water System
content
Overview
The City of Mechanicville owns and operates a modern municipal water system dedicated to delivering safe, reliable drinking water to our community. Our Water Treatment Plant, located at 33 George Thompson Road, uses advanced treatment processes to ensure high-quality water reaches homes and businesses every day.
Service Area
Our system proudly serves over 5,000 residents, including all of Mechanicville and portions of several surrounding communities in Saratoga County. Water is distributed through an extensive network of mains and service lines to approximately 1,500 residential and commercial connections.
Water Quality
The City is committed to transparency and excellence in water quality. Every year we publish a detailed Annual Drinking Water Quality Report (also known as the Consumer Confidence Report) that summarizes where your water comes from, what it contains, and how it compares to state and federal standards.

Water Emergencies & Boil Water Notices
In the rare event of a water main break, loss of pressure, or other system disruption, the City may issue a boil water advisory as a precautionary measure to protect public health.
What to do during a Boil Water Advisory:
- Bring all water to a full rolling boil for at least 1 minute, then allow it to cool before use.
- Use boiled (or bottled) water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, preparing baby formula, washing food, and making ice.
- The advisory remains in effect for a minimum of 48 hours. It is lifted only after the City collects multiple samples throughout the distribution system, has them tested by a New York State-certified laboratory, and receives two consecutive sets of negative results for total coliform bacteria.
Full details are available in our Water Emergency Procedures document (PDF).
