Trash Removal & Recycling

Trash Collection Trash removal in the City of Mechanicville is handled by County Waste (not the Public Works Department).

  • For missed trash pick-ups or trash can requests, call County Waste at 518-877-7007.
  • Ask for Dispatch regarding missed pick-ups.
  • If requesting a replacement trash can, the old can must be left at the curb for exchange.

Recycling Thursday is recycling day for all City residents. You have been provided with a single-stream recycling container.

Brush, Lawn Debris & Bulk Items

  • Lawn bags and brush are picked up curbside by the City on Mondays (weather permitting).
  • Yard debris must be placed in disposable paper bags only. It will not be collected if placed in plastic bags or regular trash containers.

Important Notes:

  • Effective July 1, 2018, the City no longer offers curbside pickup of junk or bulk items.
  • Metal items and metal appliances, along with lawn bags and brush, may be dropped off at the City Garage during regular business hours.
  • Mattresses, box springs, televisions, and computer monitors are not accepted by the City. These items may be disposed of at the Colonie Landfill or the Exit 10 County Waste Transfer Station.
  • If you hire an outside contractor for tree or brush removal, they are responsible for hauling away all debris.
