"Wipe" Out Sewer Clogs – The Toilet Is Not a Trash Can!
Only flush toilet paper.
Nothing else belongs in the toilet.
The City of Mechanicville installed a new sewage pump station behind City Hall in May 2013. Since then, “flushable” wipes, paper towels, feminine products, and other non-flushable items have been repeatedly clogging the pumps.
This is a nationwide problem that is costing cities, including ours, tens of thousands of dollars each year in labor, equipment repairs, and maintenance.
Help protect our sewer system and save taxpayer money:
- Never flush wipes, paper towels, diapers, feminine hygiene products, cotton balls, or cleaning wipes.
- Place all of these items in the trash instead.
- Clogs in the city’s sewer lines must be manually cleared by City employees.
- Clogs in your home’s sewer line can lead to expensive plumbing repairs.
Do your part, flush only toilet paper and help keep our sewers flowing freely.
